APPSC Paper Leak: Section 144 Imposed, 10 Injured In Clashes Over Question Paper Leak

Clashes broke out between security personnel and protesters during a protest in Itanagar over the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak case. Ten people, including four security personnel, were injured in the incident. The protests were part of an indefinite bandh called by the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) over the APPSC paper leak case. As a result, the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet decided to cancel the swearing-in ceremony of the chairman and members of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.

Section 144 of CrPC has been implemented in Itanagar capital region from midnight due to the protest against the paper leak case.

ANI quoted IGP (L&O) Chukhu Apa as saying, “The protesters’ demand was to postpone the swearing-in ceremony of the chairman and newly appointed members of the State Public Service Commission. But, they should have respected law and order.” Saying.

IGP (L&O) Chukhu Apa said, “To control the situation, the security personnel were forced to use tear gas and lathicharge on the protesters. Four security officials were injured during the clashes. Itanagar in the capital region Adequate security personnel have been deployed.”

The IGP said that despite the imposition of Section 144 by the administration, hundreds of youths took to the streets and protested and raised slogans against the state government. The situation turned violent after some protesters torched a motorcycle and a four-wheeler, damaged properties and pelted stones at security personnel.

Earlier on December 9, 2023, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet against eight persons as part of its ongoing probe into the alleged leak of a question paper for Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission’s Assistant Engineer (Civil) exam did.
