Guwahati: The Assam government on Saturday dismissed reports of a new question paper being leaked, claiming it tried to “disrupt the whole atmosphere” after purported photographs of a geography paper went viral on social media. I went.
Two instances of question paper leak of Class 10 examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, (SEBA) came to the fore earlier this week, leading to cancellation of both the examinations.
Around 11 am on Saturday, the purported first page of the Geography question paper started doing the rounds on social media, especially WhatsApp, causing panic among examinees.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and education minister Ranoj Pegu were quick to dismiss the alleged leak of the geography paper, the exam for which is scheduled on Monday, as an “attempt to disrupt the entire atmosphere”.
Pegu, however, claimed that the 2021 Geography question paper was edited and circulated on social media, leading to confusion among examinees as the Class 10 board exams were not held that year. Which happened due to the raging COVID pandemic.
Denying the geography question paper was leaked, the CM tweeted, “It appears that some group of people are trying to vitiate the entire atmosphere by leaking false papers of High School Leaving Certificate Examination.” “The @assampolice will investigate the matter to ascertain the identity of the groups and take appropriate action,” he added.
Pegu also said that no question paper was leaked.
He tweeted, “The Geography question paper that is being circulated on social media as allegedly leaked is fake. SEBA authority has confirmed that it is fake. The concerned officer has been directed to register an FIR in the police station.” instructed.”
He also claimed in front of a television channel that a student from Nagaon has been identified for “editing an old question paper and circulating it”.
“Since the commencement of Class 10 exams this year, several groups have been spreading misinformation in a premeditated manner. Social media does not conduct exams, SEBA does. I urge students till the board confirms Pegu said.
He also shared two screenshots on Twitter – one of the first page of the original Geography question paper of 2021 and another allegedly edited and circulated during a day with the claim that it is from this year.
This led to confusion as class 10 exams were not held in 2021 and question papers were not given to the students.
Class 10 exams under SEBA in 2021 and Class 12 exams under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (ASHEC) in 2021 were initially postponed due to the pandemic.
The results were announced based on the evaluation process recommended by two expert committees constituted for the purpose.
The pass percentage in 2021 for class 10 state board students went from less than 65 percent last year to more than 93 percent.
Two exams were canceled this week after the question paper leak came to the fore.
The General Science exam scheduled for March 13 was canceled a night before, while the Modern Indian Language (MIL) and English papers scheduled for Saturday were declared canceled by SEBA on Thursday night.
The first exam that was canceled will now be held on March 30 and the second on April 1.
CID is probing the paper leak case and 31 people including two masterminds have already been arrested.
