CUET-UG 2023: 76% Attendance Recorded On Day 1, Exam Delayed At 12 Centres

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) for undergraduate courses began on Sunday with an attendance of 76 per cent candidates in three shifts. More than 2.65 lakh candidates were to appear for the exam at more than 440 centers in 271 cities across the country. According to a report in news agency PTI, the first shift of the exam saw an attendance of 72 per cent, while it was 77 per cent in the second shift.

UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said, however, that the exams were delayed at 12 centers due to various reasons, but were successfully completed later.

“Examination started late due to some reasons like power fluctuations in some centres, and students need to follow staggered entry. Students were informed to give admit card in staggered manner to enter the center . But at some places, as they came late, there was crowd and the commencement of the examination was delayed later. We request the students to come in staggered manner to avoid such situation,” said Kumar.

“We have now taken administrative measures to prevent such situations in future. In many cities, we have also taken the help of traffic police to reduce traffic jams around centers,” he added.

“Today’s total attendance was 76 per cent, which is almost 62 per cent higher than last year,” said the UGC chairman.

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, said that the exam which was to be held on May 28 has been rescheduled as the date of Joint Integrated Program in Management Admission (JIPMAT) exam is clashing.

As per the report, a senior NTA official said, “JIPMAT and CUET through e-mail. NTA is notifying candidates to appear for JIPMAT on May 28. Such candidates will be given a separate date for CUET-UG exam.” will be allotted.”

As for today’s exam, the official said it was conducted smoothly without any technical glitches, though the exam was delayed at some centers due to issues in the biometric identification process.

“However, they were sorted and all the candidates successfully completed their exams and were given their allotted time,” he said.

Over 14 lakh applications have been received for CUET-UG this year, which is a 41 per cent increase over last year’s first edition.
