Delhi LG Approves Foreign Tour For Dy CM Manish Sisodia To Attend TESOL Education Convention

Delhi LG VK Saxena has approved a foreign tour for Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, his Secretary and Secretary (Education) to attend the TESOL Education Conference to be held in the city of Portland, Oregon, US.

The Lieutenant Governor’s office said on Friday that the education department has informed them that the cost of a specific trip will be borne by the organizers and there will be no financial burden on the government. However, it was said that Sisodia’s travel expenses would be borne by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).

“The LG, noting that both these statements were contradictory to each other and it was not clear whether the Delhi government would bear the expenses for Sisodia’s visit, gave in-principle approval for the proposed visit, subject to necessary approvals,” LG the office said.

On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged that Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena was “abusing the powers of the amended GNCTD Act unconstitutionally” by not allowing the Delhi government to send its teachers abroad for training.

He said that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government is sending its teachers to Singapore for a training program on Saturday. However, Saxena in Delhi is “stopping” the Kejriwal government from doing so.

He alleged that the amendment in the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act has given the LG powers to interfere in the functioning of the Delhi government.

The AAP-led Delhi government has approached the Supreme Court regarding this matter.
