The Noida-Greno West Metro project, which is an extension of the Aqua Line Metro in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida city and passes through the Greater Noida West area, has finally received the nod from the central government after much delay. The project was referred to the Public Investment Board (PIB) by the Ministry of Urban Development after the Uttar Pradesh government submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) with some modifications to the central government. According to a report in Tricity Today, a local news website, the PIB has approved the project and now the central government will fund the project. According to local media reports, the construction of the project may start anytime soon.
The extension of Aqua Line Metro is proposed to connect Noida and Greater Noida (West), also known as Noida Extension and is estimated to come up at a cost of Rs 2,682 crore. “The Aqua Line Metro extension corridor will connect Noida Sector 51 and Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida (West). Nine stations are proposed over 14.95 km along the route,” Gupta said.

The Greater Noida West Metro Project is a 9.15 km long elevated track where five elevated stations including Sector 122, Sector 123, Sector 4, Sector 12 Ecotech and Sector-2 are to be built in the first phase of the project. In the second phase, the remaining four metro stations will be constructed.

A total of Rs 1,100 crore is expected to be spent on the entire project by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), the Noida and Greater Noida authorities, the central government and the Uttar Pradesh government. Rs 500 crore has been allocated and will be spent on civil works.

According to officials, a 4-storey metro station will be built for this route in Gaur City and Gautam Buddha Nagar will be the first city in the country to have a 4-storey station. Under the Aqua Line Metro Project, Metro will run from Sector-51 to Greater Noida Extension (Greater Noida West).
