Indian Railways begins trial runs on newly electrified Nashik-Aurangabad route today

Indian Railways is working on electrification of rail network across the country. The trial run of the train will begin on the recently electrified Ankai-Aurangabad railway track in Maharashtra on Friday, an official said. After the trial is over, the South Central Railway official said that the first train will be operated with electric traction by the end of next month. The travel time between Mumbai and Aurangabad will be reduced by 25 to 30 minutes by eliminating the need to replace diesel engines with electric engines, he added.

“The route that has been electrified between Nashik and Ankai in Aurangabad is 100 km long. It is part of the long Ankai-Mukhed (Nanded) electrification project. Trial run of the train with the electric locomotive will begin on December 30. . ,” He said.

“After successful completion of trials on various parameters, we are hopeful that the first locomotive-hauled train will use this section for regular service next month,” the official informed.
