Assistant teachers, earlier known as para teachers, on Saturday attempted to march towards Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Kanke Road residence to raise their demands regarding pay fixation. However, the police intervened and stopped them from proceeding further. The administration had earlier issued a prohibitory order, which prohibited any procession, rally or demonstration by assistant teachers within 200 meters of the chief minister’s house and the state secretariat, as reported by PTI.
Barricades were put up in Morabadi area to disrupt the rally. The protesters appealed to the authorities, assuring a peaceful protest if they were allowed to proceed towards the CM’s house. Nevertheless, they were not allowed to move from Morabadi Maidan towards Soren’s residence citing imposition of Section-144 CrPC in the area from 7 am to 11.30 pm on Saturday. Under the banner of Ekrit Assistant Adhyapak Sangharsh Morcha (ESASM), the assistant teachers had gathered at Morhabadi Maidan in the morning.
Sanjay Dubey, a member of ESASM, said that their main demand of the agitation is to fix pay scales for all 62,000 assistant teachers.
The JMM, Congress and RJD ally had promised salary fixation of assistant teachers before the 2019 assembly elections. It has been more than three years but the issue is still pending,” said Dubey.
He said that apart from salary fixation, eight other demands include giving benefits on the basis of compensation to the relatives of the deceased teachers.

Later, the 11-member delegation was allowed to meet Chief Minister’s Secretary Vinay Kumar Choubey to put forth their demands.
After the meeting, the representatives said that the secretary has assured them of quick action on most of the demands.
“We were assured that we would be allowed to meet the chief minister next week on the issue of wage fixation,” the representatives said.
