The Directorate of Education (DoE) on Monday announced that the admission process for entry-level classes in over 1,800 private schools here will begin from December 1 for the 2023-24 academic session.
While the last date for applications is December 23, the first list of shortlisted candidates will be announced on January 20.
“The admission process for Pre-School, Pre-Primary and Class I for the session 2023-24 in private unaided recognized schools in Delhi will commence from December 1,” the DoE said in a notification.
The first list of children to be selected along with the waiting list for admission will be out on January 20, while the second list will be uploaded on February 6.
The details of all the entry level classes along with the seats available for admission will be announced by all the schools by 16th December.
The notification states that all private unaided recognized schools will upload their criteria for admission by November 28.
“No deviation from the above schedule shall be permitted. Every school shall display the above admission schedule on its notice board and website. Further, every school shall ensure that all applicants by the last date of submission of applications for admission be made available to.” it said.
The notification states that only a non-refundable amount of Rs 25 can be taken as admission registration fee. It added that the purchase of the school prospectus by the parents would be optional.
It states that all private schools shall reserve 25 per cent seats for students belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) and children with disabilities.
The schools have been asked to notify their number of seats and admission criteria by December 16.

The DoE has also directed that the number of seats at the entry level shall not be less than the maximum number of seats in the entry level classes during the last three academic years – 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23.
“The eligible parents of the students involved in the draw will be informed by the school through website, notice board and e-mail at least two days prior to the date of the draw,” the notification said.
It added that the draw would be conducted under videography and its footage would be maintained by the school. The notification states that the slips will be shown to the parents before they are dropped in the box, which is being used for the draw.
