New Delhi: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shocked the world when he joined a massive layoff spree. Zuckerberg is deeply saddened to reveal that 13 percent of the company’s employees, or more than 11,000 employees worldwide, will be laid off. Many of these employees are H1B visa holders from India and other countries who are currently struggling.
Indians affected by the meta layoffs have expressed their immediate desire for employment on social media. If H1B holders lose their current job, they have 60 days to seek new employment. Raju Kadam, a former senior technical program manager at Meta, revealed his experience on LinkedIn as one of the many impacted Indian H1B workers. “Unfortunately, I found out today that I am one of 11,000 workers who were laid off by Meta’s “MetaLife” campaign. I didn’t anticipate being laid off, partly because I didn’t want to join Meta in every aspect. It’s done well since. I started an amazing adventure nine months ago working for Meta, but it ended unexpectedly,” Kadam made in a LinkedIn post.
Kadam said he has limited time to find a new job as he is on H1B visa. In the post, Kadam also mentioned his two children, who are US citizens despite being Indians. That being said, my clock for departure from the United States has started today because I have an H1-B visa.
To get the job, I’ve been contacting all of my metamates, contacts, and the LinkedIn network. If I don’t, I’ll have to take my kids and leave the United States. I’ve lived in the US 16 years and saw recessions in 2008, 2015 (oil), and 2020, but I’ve never lost my job.
The lives of my two sons, Yash, who is a chicken, and Arjun, who is a Superman, will be affected. I will do whatever is in my power to give them the best chance to succeed in the USA. So, I need a new job in USA ASAP,” the post read.
