Professor GS Vajpayee has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Delhi. He assumed charge as the new NLU-Delhi VC on February 28, 2023. Professor Bajpai succeeds Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao, who held the position from September 2020.
Prior to taking over as the new VC of NLU – Delhi, Professor Vajpayee has served as the Registrar and Chairman of the Center for Criminology and Victimology at NLU Delhi. He was also the former Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Punjab.
Professor Bajpai has a career spanning over thirty years where he has worked extensively as an administrator and researcher. He has authored 20 books and is also the editor of two international journals – The Journal of Victimology and Victim Justice and Indian Journal of Criminology. He has also played his role as Principal Investigator in the preparation of about 700 e-tests and videos in various areas of legal education. In addition, he has been associated with and has been a major contributor to several Central and State Government projects.
In terms of academics, Professor Bajpai holds a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Doctorate in Victimology and a Post-Doctorate in Criminal Justice from the University of Leicester. He has also been a Commonwealth Fellow in the Department of Criminology at the University.

A keen researcher in legal studies, Professor Bajpai is also a frequent contributor to leading dailies and journals. Prior to his tenure at NLU Delhi, he has been actively associated in various capacities at National Law Institute University, Bhopal, Indian Institute of Public Administration, Bureau of Police Research & Development, Punjab Police Academy, Punjab and Department of Criminology and Forensic Science.
Professor Bajpai has also been the Member Secretary of the Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. of India. Welcoming Professor Bajpai as its new VC, NLU Delhi said in a press release, “The university will surely scale new academic heights and achieve excellence under his leadership.”
