After a pandemic-induced hiatus of two years, IIT Bombay Techfest 2022 is back with its 26th edition. More than 1,75,000 students, professors, scholars and eminent personalities from more than 2500 institutions are expected to participate in Techfest 2022, to be held from December 16 to December 18, 2022.

Acclaimed for showcasing groundbreaking innovations in the field of science and technology, IIT Bombay Techfest takes a bold step into space exploration for 2022 with its SPACE line-up.

Spanning the length of ISRO and NASA, the ambitious space line-up aims to provide a close insight into the modern trends and innovations in the field of space and defense technology. The line-up was courtesy of distinctive pavilions with prominent positions and displayed defense equipment such as satellites and missiles, along with keynote addresses from eminent scholars of the field.

IIT Bombay Techfest 2022: Key Highlights

ISRO Pavilion: As one of the key attractions of the space line-up, the ISRO Pavilion at TechFest 2022 will serve as an exhibition center dedicated to ISRO. The objective of the pavilion is to showcase the growing space programs of ISRO and the enormous growth over the years. Rovers, satellites, rockets, sensors and engines on display. The pavilion will feature PSLV and GSLV models with LVM3, ps4, and CE-20 engines, space suits, ion thrusters, semi-cryogenic pre-burners, and igniters.

brahmos missile Also on display at Techfest 2022 will be the stealthy and deadly yet lightweight, BrahMos supersonic missile. This 2-stage missile is brought to life by a solid propellant engine as the first stage, which separates itself after pushing it to supersonic speed.

Spacehopper: Low-Gravity Space Exploration – Designed to explore low-gravity environments such as an asteroid, the Scapahopper will allow TechFest attendees with a first-hand experience of space exploration rovers. Unlike traditional rovers with wheels, the Spacehopper has a jump trajectory and stabilizes its altitude with controlled movement of its legs. The core functionalities of the Spacehopper prototype have already been tested on Earth, and research on an improved version of the same is currently underway.
