New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp banned over 65 lakh bad accounts in India in the month of May in compliance with the new IT rules 2021, the company said on Sunday.
Between May 1 and May 31, 6,508,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned and 2,420,700 of these accounts were actively banned, before any reports of users in the country.
WhatsApp, which has more than 500 million users in India, banned a record 7.4 million bad accounts in April.

The most popular messaging platform received 3,912 complaint reports such as “ban appeal” in the country in May, and 297 “action” records.
“Action on accounts” refers to reports where WhatsApp has taken remedial action based on the report and taking action means either banning an account or reinstating a previously banned account as a result.
According to the company, “This user-safety report includes details of user complaints received and action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to deal with abuse on our platform.”
